Chris Boswell says working with Shaun Suisham helped

Former Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham works with kicker Chris Boswell during afternoon practice Dec. 13, 2018.

The Steelers added a kicker at practice Thursday, but not to kick.
Instead, Shaun Suisham came to help Chris Boswell, who in a roundabout way replaced him on the Steelers roster in 2015.
“It’s just good to have another kicker out there, throwing ideas off each other,” Boswell said after practice. “He was in the league for 11 years, so it’s always good to have a guy like that around watching. It’s good to have a guy of his caliber.”
With Boswell now having problems making field goals and extra points after a Pro Bowl season, the Steelers held tryouts for two kickers on Wednesday, Kai Forbath and Matt McCrane.
Boswell said they have told him nothing about any changes.
“I have no idea,” he said.
Special teams coach Danny Smith said the staff would talk about the situation later Thursday.
Boswell has missed 11 kicks this season, including two in Oakland last Sunday, one with no time left that would have tied the game. Five of his misses were PAT tries.
He was nearly impeccable last season when he made a Steelers record 35 of 38 field goal tries and 37 of 39 PATs. He also has never missed a field goal in the postseason, making all 15 tries.
He said after working with Suisham on Thursday, “We took a step in the right direction, we just have to put it on the field.”
Suisham kicked for the Steelers from 2010 until the first preseason game in 2015 when he tore his ACL while he was trying to make a tackle against the Minnesota Vikings in the Hall of Fame game at Canton, Ohio.
