Days after assaulting a civic official with a cricket bat here and subsequently landing in jail for it, BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya Monday joined his high-profile politician-father Kailash Vijayvargiya in singing bhajans at a city temple.
The religious function was organised on the occasion of the first death anniversary of Akash Vijayvargiya's grandmother Ayodhya Devi at Gendeshwar Mahadev temple in Pardeshipura area.
Interestingly, after he was released on bail Sunday, Akash Vijayvargiya, who appeared unrepentant over the June 26 incident, had said he would try to follow Mahatma Gandhi's path of non-violence while raising public issues in future.
Kailash Vijayvargiya, a national general secretary of the BJP and a former Madhya Pradesh minister, takes to singing songs and bhajans whenever he gets an opportunity.
In a video posted on a social media site, the father-son duo is seen engrossed in bhajan recitation, which lasted for nearly two hours.
Some netizens have mocked Akash Vijayvargiya's move to join the recitation programme.
"Akash Vijaywargiya abhi Mahadev ki bhakti me leen hai. Mahadev unhe sadbuddhi pradan kare, jisse vah kanoon ko aainda apne hath me na le. (Akash seems engrossed in worshipping Lord Shiva. Hope the Lord gives him better sense so that he won't take law into his hands again)," read a post.
The 34-year-old bat-wielding BJP MLA had assaulted the civic official during an argument with a team of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) over demolition of a dilapidated building in Ganji Compound area last week.
The opposition lawmaker from Indore was later arrested and spent a few days in jail before being released on bail by a court.
