Sports fans, listen up. The largest sports mall in the world is coming to Dubai, and it’s expected to take “the concept of sport centres to unprecedented levels”. We’re intrigued.
Dubai-based firm Viva City has announced plans to open The Sport Society project by 2020, with its location expected to be close to Deira City Centre.
The huge mall will have three floors, and has been (fittingly) measured to have a total area that is equal to 12 football pitches.
The ground floor will be used mainly for sporting events, and what we can see from pictures, will also have an ice-skating rink.
As for the other two floors, expect retail outlets by top international sports brands, space for various sports activities along with health-driven restaurants and cafés.
That’s not all, as the mall will also have “one of the largest LED display panels”, where shoppers and sports fans can gather to watch international sports tournaments.
The project has been inspired to attract fans of more than 40 different types of sport.
"The project will present big surprises both in design and activities, and will deliver a unique experience combining shopping, entertainment and sports. The launch of the project comes in line with the Dubai Fitness Challenge”, said head of design at Viva City Edgar Bove.
“It will have three floors with a total area that is equal to 12 football pitches. The ground floor will be the most significant and will have a large space for organising various sporting events.”
The Sport Society will “embody” the commitments encouraged by the Dubai Fitness Challenge, and to make Dubai the most active city in the world.
Fancy a bit of virtual sports instead? The city announced earlier this year that is will be constructing its X-Stadium – an E-sports stadium that will be used for competitive gaming.
You’re living in the right place if you love sport.
Due to open by 2020. Near Deira City Centre.
